OUR SERVICES

Our remit

The Marine Society provides a range of services for seafarers to enhance learning, well-being, and to facilitate professional development.

Learning

We serve professional seafarers from all the sea services, irrespective of nationality or status, age, ability or aspiration.

Our objective is to ensure life at sea presents no barrier to learning, bringing more experience in the field of distance learning than any other maritime sector provider.

Whilst we're direct providers of some education programmes, we also partner selected education and training providers to deliver seafarer-focused opportunities for quality-assured personal and professional development.

As a not-for-profit provider our quality assured service is effective, friendly and flexible.

Financial Support

We offer scholarship schemes for UK officers and ratings to encourage and facilitate personal and professional development.

Book/Media Services

There's a library service supplying 120,000 books to ships throughout the world. It's much appreciated by those fortunate enough to benefit from the service.

We're also booksellers. Books, e-books, dvds - all titles - available at competitive prices to seafarers and maritime sector bodies that serve seafarers.

We run our own online bookshop. Any surplus funds generated goes to support seafarers.

Advice

We've long been a respected source of free, confidential and independent advice to seafarers on any matter of concern to them. We deal with more than 6,500 enquiries from seafarers every year.

Supporting seafarers is our strength
