The Marine Society & Sea Cadets Christmas Card 2008

The Christmas card this year is from the collection of our Patron,
Her Majesty The Queen – Willem van de Velde the Younger’s A calm:
A States yacht, a barge and many other vessels under sail
.

The son of a painter, van de Velde was born in Leiden in 1633. Having achieved
celebrity in Holland he moved to England in 1673 where he was engaged by Charles II, at a salary of £100 per annum, to aid his father in “taking and making draughts of sea-fights”, his part being to reproduce in colour the drawings of the van de Veldes. The picture was acquired in 1814 by George IV. The van de Veldes were given a studio by Charles II at Greenwich, which now forms part of the display at the National Maritime Museum.

The cards are matt laminated and measure 130 x 190mm. The words inside read A Very Happy Christmas and a Prosperous New Year. The cards are available in packs of 10, 25 or 100. They may be overprinted on a separate insert with your organisation, company or personal details, for a minimum order of 100 cards
