PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

There are courses offering practical help with information and communication technology and many other areas.

For those returning to learning after a period away, we offer courses in functional skills that are designed to brush up on the basics. We call them skills for life.

There are courses for those thinking of running their own business: marketing, book keeping, business start-ups, and accountancy. We also offer a bespoke degree in business, leadership and management. All by distance learning.

We offer a range of financial programmes.

These are available only to UK nationals (officers and ratings domiciled in the UK).

Our financial support packages are intended to incentivise and promote learning and professional development.

UK ratings seeking to become officers may benefit from a Slater Scholarship worth up to £16,000.

The Marine Society offers a route to get a degree from a UK university without the need to step ashore. Studying the work-based learning route has real advantages and now you can benefit from enrolling directly through us. Next intake is February 2012 with closing date for applications 16th January 2012.

We also offer special opportunities for study with The Open University.

We also support 'adqual' courses leading to certificates and diplomas in Marine Surveying, Yacht & Small Craft Surveying, Cargo Surveying, Ship Management, Ship Agency, Ship Superintendency, Harbour Masters and many more.
