OUR PROVISION

The Marine Society administers a range of financial schemes to help UK national seafarers (officers and ratings domiciled in the UK) to advance their academic and professional qualifications.

Marine Society Worcester Scholarships for UK officers

This is aimed primarily at the qualified mariner wanting to gain a higher academic qualification in the maritime field (eg: BEng or BSc in Maritime Engineering or Operations, and in some cases for Diploma courses eg Marine Surveying) leading to a broader career in the maritime sector. More.

John William Slater Scholarships for serving UK ratings

Nautilus International administers the John William Slater Scholarship in association with the Marine Society. The scholarship is for UK serving ratings aspiring to their first Officer of the Watch certificate of competency. More

SmarT Funding

The Merchant Navy Training Provider at the Merchant Navy Training Board also has funds from the government SmarT funding scheme to help seafarers. Beneficiaries are unemployed seafarers who do not have company support to attain higher professional qualifications or revalidate their certificates to STCW95. Email.

Selection

All applications are considered on their merits and require supporting references and confirmation of college places. Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to the sea services and maritime related industries with a clear vision of their intended career path. All applications (with the exception of MN Training Provider funding) must be made on a standard application form obtainable from the Marine Society. Ask us

Financial help is available only to British professional seafarers who are domiciled in the UK, is subject to status checks, and dependent upon the availability of funds.
