Private candidates (also known as external candidates) can enter for their exams through the Marine Society.

Examinations are available in most subjects for GCSE, IGCSE and A Level through AQA, CIE, EDEXCEL and OCR exam boards.

Marine Society has been running public examinations for over four decades and accepts applications from any individual who wishes to sit their GCSE, IGCSE or A Level exams as a private candidate either as a first time candidate or as a re-sit.

We are located just a short walk from Waterloo Station (tube and mainline) and Lambeth North tube station.

“We would like to take this opportunity to offer congratulations to you and your staff on maintaining these standards. May we thank you for welcoming our Inspector and helping to ensure the integrity of the public examination system” Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) 2011

“Thank you again for all the assistance in enabling me to sit my exams” Clint Matthews; achieved a Grade A in GCSE Maths

Revision Tips

The next opportunity to sit I/GCSE and A level examinations is either November 2011 or January 2012. Registrations for these exam series are now being accepted.

The date for registering for exams in November 2011 has passed and we are no longer accepting entries for this exam session.

The date for registering for exams in January 2012 has passed. Although we may be able to accept entries this will be assessed on application and will be subject to increased fees.

Registration for summer 2012 exams will be accepted from January 2012.

Before you register, please read the Terms and Conditions. You will be asked to sign the registration form to confirm that you have read these documents.

For more information on timetables for exams held in November and January please click on the relevant link.

There are some examinations that we are unable to accommodate. These include entries for supervised coursework, language oral tests, language listening tests and practical subjects.

However candidates who wish to carry forward marks for a previous session and supply a valid candidate statement of results at the time of entry will be accepted.

If you’re still unsure then it's best to contact us before submitting your registration form and we will be able to advise.

If we’re not able to accommodate you then we may be able to signpost you to an alternative centre which can.
