PROVISION

We help seafarers to hone their competitive edge by formalising their skills and experience.

Our provision covers core skills, through GCSEs and A levels for the Royal Navy and the Merchant Navy, degrees and postgraduate, as well as support for a raft of programmes contributing to continuing professional development.

Our exam results in summer 2011 were excellent: they are consistently above the national average.

We help professional seafarers, irrespective of rank or rate, and cater for all levels, ages, abilities and aspirations.

There are courses offering practical help with information and communication technology and many other areas.

For those returning to learning after a period away, we offer courses in functional skills that are designed to help brush up on the basics. We call them skills for life. Our eLearning MathsatSea course is especially popular.

There’s also support for a range of CV-enhancing diploma programmes.

We offer free, impartial and confidential advice on all aspects of learning, personal and professional development, and books to underpin studies can be supplied in any format at competitive prices.

We've teamed up with Middlesex University and are now enrolling seafarers for a BSc to top-up their HND/FD. We're also enrolling for a Masters Degree - all you need is a Class 1 CoC.

There are courses for those thinking of running their own business: marketing, book-keeping, business start-ups, and accountancy. We also offer a bespoke degree in business, leadership and management in association with The Open University.

Support for Learning

Financial support for professional development is provided to UK seafarers through scholarships, and interest-free loans may be available, too. For ratings seeking advancement to officer, there is the John Slater Scholarship scheme.
