Celebrating Success: Marina and Boatyard Operative Apprentices Complete Their Journey

Marine Society is proud to celebrate the recent cohort of apprentices who have successfully completed the Marina and Boatyard Operative Apprenticeship—a significant milestone not only for the individuals involved but also for the wider maritime sector.

This quarter, we’ve seen a growing number of apprentices demonstrate their dedication, skill, and passion for the marine environment, culminating in the successful completion of their End Point Assessments. These achievements reflect the hard work of the apprentices, the support of their employers, and the guidance of training providers who have helped shape the next generation of marine professionals.

A Vital Role in the Maritime Sector
The Marina and Boatyard Operative role is essential to the smooth running of marinas, boatyards, and waterfront facilities across the UK. From vessel handling and maintenance to customer service and environmental stewardship, these operatives are the backbone of day-to-day operations in our coastal and inland waterways.
Through the apprenticeship, learners gain hands-on experience and industry-recognised qualifications, equipping them with the practical skills and confidence to thrive in a dynamic and rewarding career.

Stories of Growth and Achievement
Among this quarter’s completers are individuals who have not only grown in technical ability but have also become ambassadors for the maritime industry. Many have already secured full-time roles within their organisations, while others are exploring further training or specialisation in areas such as marine engineering, boatbuilding, or port operations.

“The apprenticeship gave me the chance to turn my passion for the water into a career. I’ve learned so much—from boat handling to health and safety—and I’m proud to now be a full-time member of the marina team.”

  • Henry McNeil, L2 Marina and Boatyard Operative Apprentice

“I love how it was able to work for me and my needs, I could do the work in my time and also had the support from everyone else.”

  • Max Fleming, L2 Marina and Boatyard Operative Apprentice

Looking Ahead
As the Marine Society continues to support maritime apprenticeships, we remain committed to helping individuals from all backgrounds access meaningful careers on and around the water. With new cohorts already underway and more employers recognising the value of apprenticeships, the future of the sector looks bright.
To all our recent completers: congratulations on your achievement. You are the future of the maritime workforce, and we can’t wait to see where your journey takes you next.
